The year 2024 was a mix of experiences. The first half of the year I continued to wander around the world, and things were pretty positive. But, in May I met with some unfortunate unexpected circumstances around a medical emergency, many of my plans for this year had to be cancelled or postponed.
Even in an emotionally intense year and being tied to one place for far too long, I am grateful for what I was able to see and do this year.
Overall
This year I’ve explored a bit more of my Hong Kong base, with revisits to Thailand (x2), Singapore, Japan (x2), United States (x2), Mexico, United Kingdom, Israel (x2), Portugal, Macau, Emirates, and first visits to the Dominican Republic.
Was an insanely busy year, so have not had much time to post on the blog to update on all these destinations, feel like it’s getting more difficult to keep track of things with the blog. Still, wanted to wrap up and mention the posts I did do, and try to get a feel for it all. So, here’s a quick summary of my 2024 in travel.
January
I started the year in Thailand (Chiang Mai, Bangkok, and Hua Hin), spent some time in Singapore.
February
Visited Japan (Tokyo), and the United States (San Francisco).
March
Visited Mexico, started in Mexico City, flew to Yauacan’s Valladolid, Merida, and Chichen Itza, and wrapped up in Tulum and Playa del Carmen. Made a brief stop in the Dominican Republic, on my way to the east coast United States.

April
While in the United States, lingered for a while in Philadelphia. Did a train trip to Yale University in New Haven. Followed with a trip to Tennessee and Kentucky, ending the month in New York City.

May
Wandered around the United Kingdom, from London, to Liverpool and Leeds, with a quick stop in Chester.
June-August
Unfortunately, due to an unexpected emergency, I had to spend these months in Israel, and couldn’t travel much.
At the end of August, visited Portugal (Porto and Lisbon) briefly, with a short stopover in Thailand (Phuket), on my way back to Hong Kong.
September to November
Mostly uneventful intense work months in Hong Kong. Did a bit of the usual hikes and hangouts.
In October, did a trip to Takamtsu and Hiroshima in Japan. In November, did a short trip to Macau.
December
Visited the Emirates (Dubai) on my way to Israel.
Summary
Not the travel year I was planning, but still managed to have some nice adventures (compare that with 2023, 2022, 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010 and 2009). Lots to cherish and be grateful for from this year.
In the year 2025 I will be wrapping up my life in Hong Kong and trying to find a new base in the world. I will spend the first months in Hong Kong, and from May hoping to go explore more of the world. Lots of uncertainty mixed with excitements, I’m not sure how things will turn out, looking forward to new adventures to come.
