Azerbaijan was a weird trip, until now I’m not too sure what to make of this country. I started off in Baku and nearby area with the Fire Temple and fire mountain for a couple of days. I then made my way slowly west, with some fairly bizarre attractions like a crazy ride in an old 1970 car to see some mud volcano, see some old villages and towns like Sheki and Ganja, and in between went up a cable car in Qabala and visited odd museums of local cultures and history.
It was very very hot, unbearably, so that affected the whole experience. Throughout the whole visit, I kept wondering whether I’m misunderstanding the country or missing out on things. Most things did not leave a big impression on me, the tourguides and drivers behavior was bizarre and subpar, and at the end I decided to cut my losses and leave the organized tour+driver and the country a day+ earlier and just crossed the border to Georgia to begin a new adventure.
I’ve been to so many countries, that this experience really stands out. Maybe organizing the photos and videos will help me understand it better, maybe some day I’ll be make my way back and will then be able to see things a different way.
For now, here are my visions impressions of one of the most puzzling travel experiences I’ve had in recent years – Azerbaijan…
