When touring around London and before heading up to northern England, I asked a friend what to see beyond the obvious big cities of Liverpool, Manchester, and Leeds, and he replied very confidently that I should make a stop in Chester. I haven’t heard of Chester up until that point, and I had very little time to do any homework, so I came in without much preparation to try and see what I can wing in a day’s trip.
I’m glad I did. I joined a walking tour, did a bit more by myself, and enjoyed the vibe, the history, and the charm of this little historical town. Lots of well preserved ruins of an old fortified city, with some artifacts dating back 2 millennia when the Romans used it as a stronghold to rule the region.
