Taiwan is my old home and so every visit back is a treat. In early 2023, I ventured out of the Covid craziness in Hong Kong, just after Taiwan eased up restrictions, and spent some time in Taipei and Kaohsiung, to wrap things up with a trip around Kending (Kenting) national park. I’ve been there before, in 2007, and it was a very different trip. It was absolutely empty, no tourists, no Taiwanese travelers, I had the whole park to myself. With a rented car I explored all over, and one of the highlights in this gorgeous area was the artsy Eluanbi Lighthouse Park, that has wonderful walking paths, and takes you to Taiwan’s most southern point, overlooking the ocean.
I must have spent 3 hours exploring all the paths, taking my time with the views and the lighthouse. Around and at the lighthouse were some funky art sculptures, which made it feel even more special.
Love that area, a good mix of nostalgia and new explorations. Good times.
