I’ve traveled all over Vietnam on several occasions, but there was a side of Vietnam that alluded me until earlier this year – the island of Phu Quoc. I finally had the chance to go visit for a few days this year, before heading over for a meeting in Hanoi. I didn’t do much homework and so didn’t really know what to expect, and so what I found caught me completely offguard and was a bit shocking.
The island, aside from its natural scenic beauty is at the heart of a strong competition between two large Vietnamese companies competing for who does bigger attractions.
In the north, you have the Vin group with its large fake Venice and the VinWonders Disney imitation park.
In the south, you have the Sun Group with its, you guessed it, own European style Sunset Town, which leads using an insane cable car to paradise island with its own amusement park Sun World. Yeah, I visited both of them, and tried to explore as much as I could from this very strange island.
In between visited the hectic night market and saw some of the beaches and breathtaking views. It’s an experience, for sure.
